FHWA established minimum maintained retroreflectivity levels for traffic signs. Agencies must use an assessment or management method to maintain signs above these minimums.
We offer Engineer Grade (Type I), High Intensity Prismatic (HIP/Type III), and Diamond Grade (DG3/Type XI). Higher grades provide better visibility and longer reflective life.
FHWA requires all regulatory and warning signs to maintain minimum retroreflectivity. Stop signs, speed limit signs, and warning signs benefit most from higher-grade sheeting.
Signs can be assessed using visual nighttime inspection (comparison panels), measured with a retroreflectometer, or managed through expected sign life (blanket replacement).
